Around 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland found themselves without power on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms passed over the region, bringing powerful gusts topping 109km/h.

Large Ice Stones and Broad Destruction

Residents witnessed giant hailstones measuring up to seven centimeters in particular locations. Meteorological experts verified that multiple regions across the state had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were working to restore energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews working to address the extensive power failures.

Victoria's Weather Woes

Simultaneously, around 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also encountered energy failures after the metropolitan area saw its most precipitation in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services handled nearly 600 requests for assistance across the area, mainly for property damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

• Werribee region - recorded considerable weather impact
• Hoppers Crossing - numerous rescue reports
• Wyndham region - over 175 emergency requests

At one point on Sunday, in excess of 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were lacking electricity.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were predicted to continue along large portions of Queensland's east this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coast.

Tomorrow was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with continued severe weather risk expected across various areas of both states.

Health Warning

Health officials alerted that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after historical occurrences where comparable situations led to major medical consequences in the state.
